Getting Started
This guide covers installing the mod, opening the panel, what every tab does, and step-by-step help for the most common admin jobs.
1. Installing
- On the server: put the mod in the server's mods folder and restart the server.
- On each admin's computer: put the same mod in their game's mods folder. Only people who will use the panel need it.
- Regular players don't need anything. They can join with or without the mod.
2. Who can use it
Only server operators can open the panel. By default an operator needs permission level 3 or higher.
To change the required level:
- Stop the server.
- Open world/serverconfig/nutecservercp-server.toml.
- Change adminPermissionLevel to a number from 1 to 4.
- Start the server again.
This one setting can only be changed in the file, so no admin can accidentally lock everyone out from inside the panel. The server checks permission on every single action, so a player without permission can't use the panel even with the mod installed.
3. Opening the panel
- Press J (you can change this key in Options, Controls, Key Binds, under "NuTec Server Control Panel"), or
- type /controlpanel or /cp in chat.
Tabs run down the left side. Everything updates live while the panel is open, and the game keeps running behind it. When you change something, a short message at the bottom confirms it worked, or explains in red why it didn't.
4. The tabs
Overview
A quick look at your server's health and the most-used actions:
- Stat cards: players online, TPS, tick time, memory, uptime, current day, weather and difficulty. TPS turns yellow or red when the server is struggling.
- Quick actions: vanish yourself, change the time or weather, broadcast a message, and save the world.
- Online now: everyone who is online, with their face and status.
Time and World
- Time: jump to sunrise, day, noon, sunset, night or midnight, or drag the slider. Turn the day/night cycle off to freeze time.
- Weather: pick clear, rain or thunder and how long it lasts, or turn the weather cycle off.
- Difficulty: set it and lock it so players can't change it from their options menu.
- World border: set its size, or centre it on where you're standing.
- Spawn: set the world spawn to your current position.
Players
Every online player is listed with Manage, Kick and Ban buttons. Click Manage to open their profile, which has:
- Game mode: Survival, Creative, Adventure or Spectator.
- Flight: let them fly in survival, and set their personal fly speed.
- Actions: heal, feed, give items, teleport to them, bring them to you, view their inventory or ender chest, clear their inventory, or kill them.
- Moderation: vanish them, make them an operator, mute, kick or ban.
- Notes: permanent notes about the player, at the bottom of the profile.
You can't kick, ban, mute or de-op yourself, and you can't open your own inventory this way. Those buttons are greyed out on your own profile.
Bans and Access
- Whitelist: turn it on, enforce it (kicks online players who aren't listed), and add or remove names.
- Operators: add or remove operators by name.
- Banned players, Muted players and Banned IPs: each entry shows the reason, who did it, and when it ends. Unban or unmute with one click.
Server
- Gameplay: turn PvP and flight on or off.
- Server list: change the MOTD shown in the multiplayer list.
- Performance: view distance, simulation distance and the idle kick time.
- Vanish: choose whether non-admins see fake "left the game" and "joined the game" messages when someone vanishes or reappears.
- Messaging: broadcast a message to every player.
- Maintenance: save all worlds, or stop the server (it saves first and asks you to confirm).
Flight and Anti-Cheat
Fixes players being pulled back ("rubber-banding") or kicked for moving too fast:
- Movement speed check: the "moved too quickly" check. Turn it off to never pull players back.
- Allowed speed: how many times faster than normal a player may move.
- Scale with fly speed: players with a higher fly speed automatically get a higher limit.
- Moved-wrongly check: turn off if players snap back to where they were.
- Vehicle speed check: the same idea for boats, horses and minecarts.
- Everyone's fly speed: set every online player's fly speed at once, or reset everyone to 1x.
Game Rules
Every game rule, grouped by category, with a search box at the top. On/off rules have a switch; number rules have a box and a Set button.
Audit Log
Every change made from the panel, newest first, showing what changed, who did it and when. The full history is kept in nutecservercp-audit.log in the world folder.
5. Common tasks
Ban a player for a set time
- Open Players and click Ban next to their name (or open their profile).
- Type a reason. This is optional, and the player sees it.
- Pick a length: Forever, 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days or 30 days.
- Turn on Also ban IP address if they might come back on another account.
- Click Ban. They are removed right away, and the ban lifts by itself when the time runs out.
Banning someone who is offline: at the bottom of the Players tab, type their name under "Ban an offline player" and click Ban.... They must have joined before, or have a real account.
Mute a player
- Open their profile and click Mute... under Moderation.
- Add a reason if you want and pick a length: Forever, 10 min, 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days.
- Click Mute.
While muted they can't use chat, /msg, /tell, /w, /me, /say or /teammsg. They are told how long is left each time they try. To lift it early, click Unmute in their profile or in Bans and Access.
Give a player items
- Open their profile and find Give item under Actions.
- Start typing an item. A list of matches appears with icons, searching item names and IDs.
- Use the arrow keys and press Tab or Enter, or click an item, to pick it.
- Type the amount in the small box (leave it empty for 1).
- Click Give.
You can give up to 100 stacks at once, the same as /give. If their inventory fills up, the rest drops at their feet, and only they can pick it up.
Look in a player's inventory or ender chest
- Open their profile and click Inventory or Ender chest.
- A chest window opens with their items. Their hotbar is the fourth row; armor and offhand are in the bottom row.
- Take, add or move items like in any chest. Changes happen instantly, even while they play.
Armor slots only accept the right kind of armor. The grey panes in the bottom row are just filler and can't be moved.
Leave a note about a player
- Open their profile and scroll to Notes at the bottom.
- Type your note (up to 256 characters) and click Add note or press Enter.
Each note is stamped with your name and the date and time. All admins see the same notes. Notes can't be edited or removed, so they work as a permanent record, for example of warnings given. If there are many notes, the notes box gets its own scrollbar.
Watch players without being seen
- On Overview, turn on Vanish (you).
- You disappear from the world and the player list for everyone except other admins.
- If fake messages are on (Server tab), other players see you "leave the game".
Turn it off the same way to reappear. Vanish stays on after you log out or the server restarts until you turn it off.
Stop fast flyers from being pulled back
- Open Flight and Anti-Cheat.
- Make sure Scale with fly speed is on.
- If players are still pulled back, raise Allowed speed a little at a time.
- As a last resort, turn off the Movement speed check.
6. Good to know
- Changes are saved. Bans, mutes, notes, vanish and the panel's settings all survive a restart. Settings you change in the panel override server.properties.
- Bans, mutes and notes follow the account, not the name. Changing their name won't get a player out of a ban or mute.
- Typed text is kept. If the panel refreshes while you are typing a note, reason or name, what you typed stays.
- Everything is logged. Each change is in the Audit Log and the server log.
7. Troubleshooting
| ProblemFix | |
| "Install NuTec Server Control Panel on your client to use the control panel." | Add the mod to your own game's mods folder, not just the server's. |
| "You do not have permission to use the server control panel." | You need to be an operator at the required level (3 by default). Ask the server owner, or check adminPermissionLevel in the config file. |
| Pressing J does nothing | Another mod may use J. Change the key in Controls, or use /cp. |
| "That player is no longer online." | Player actions only work on online players. Ban offline players by name from the Players tab. |
| Players are kicked with "Flying is not enabled" | Turn on Allow flight in the Server tab. |
| Players rubber-band when flying fast | See "Stop fast flyers from being pulled back" above. |
