Write your own worlds, then step inside them.

Worlds In Ink turns writing into exploration. Collect symbol pages, bind them into a book, and the book becomes a doorway to a world shaped by the words you chose. Build a scholar's study to work in, raise crystal portals of any size, and travel between the worlds you have written.

Writing Ages

Every page carries a symbol for a piece of a world: its terrain, biomes, sky, weather, light or something stranger. Bind your pages into a Descriptive Book at the Book Binder and give it a name. The first time you open the book and touch its panel, a new world called an age is written into being around your symbols. Anything you leave out, the book's grammar fills in, so an age can still surprise the person who wrote it.

  • Terrain: standard, amplified, caverns, islands, flat, void and skylands
  • Biomes: any biome, laid out singly, in grids, tiles or natural patterns, from tiny to huge
  • Features: caves, ravines, floating islands, huge trees, lakes, crystal formations, spikes, obelisks, dungeons, dense ores and villages, strongholds and other structures
  • Sky: suns, moons, stars, rainbows, and colours of your choosing for the sky, fog, clouds, grass, foliage and water
  • Weather and light: endless rain, snow or storms, bright or dark ages, and days that pass quickly or slowly
  • Hazards: meteors, lightning, explosions, scorched ground and the Star Fissure, a chasm that drops you back home

Instability

Careless writing has a cost. Every age keeps an instability score, built from its symbols and from how much valuable ore it holds. An unstable age fights back with spreading decay, meteor strikes, lightning, fire and worse. Write carefully, and your world stays calm.

Linking Books and Link Panels

  • Linking Books remember the place they were made, so a book written at home always brings you back.
  • Link panels mixed at the Ink Mixer can carry special effects: Intra Linking within the same world, Disarm, Maintain Momentum, Generate Platform and Relative.
  • Books stay behind when you link, so you can leave one waiting for the trip home, or place it on a lectern or bookstand for others to read.

Crystal Portals

Frame an opening with crystal, upright or flat on the floor, in any size you like with at least a three by three opening inside. Mount a Book Receptacle on the frame and give it a book, and the opening fills with a shimmering link to wherever that book leads. Take the book back and the portal closes.

The Scholar's Study

Furniture for the work, in eleven woods from oak to warped, each keeping its wood when moved.

  • Writing Desk: a two-block desk with a backboard. Lay out your folders across its tabs, sort and search your symbols, and copy them onto fresh pages with ink. Each folder on the desk adds a book to the backboard shelf, with an ink vial and loose pages on the desktop.
  • Book Binder: binds your pages, in order, into a Descriptive Book.
  • Ink Mixer: mixes ink with additives into link panels with random effects.
  • Bookstand and Lectern: display a book where anyone can read and use it. A lectern can also hold a single page.
  • Bookcase and Potion Shelf: hold sixteen books or twelve bottles, show them on the shelf, and signal a comparator.
  • Collation Folders and Symbol Portfolios keep a growing collection in order.

Exploration and Rewards

  • Archivists: a new villager who sells symbol pages and link panels and buys paper, living in Archivist houses built in the local style of plains, desert, savanna, snowy and taiga villages.
  • Small Libraries: ruined reading rooms with a treasure chest and lecterns holding rare pages.
  • Wizard's Tower: a rare furnished tower with three loot chests and three lecterns of rare pages, found in the overworld, in ages and on floating islands.
  • Booster packs: rare finds that open into a folder of random pages.
  • Treasure: dungeon, temple and stronghold library chests can hold symbol pages.
  • Floating islands that take the biome written with them, and meteors that leave burning craters full of ore.
  • Advancements to mark the journey, from your first page to the way back home.

For Server Owners

  • Operator commands to list and inspect ages, hand out books, teleport, call down meteors, adjust instability, regenerate chunks and set which worlds each player may link into or out of.
  • Settings to turn instability on or off, tune its difficulty, and set how often Archivist houses appear.
